About Steady

Steady is a Canadian financial wellness and credit-building platform designed to help Canadians build a record of regular payments and develop healthier financial habits.

We currently offer two credit-building products: Steady Path and Steady Build.

Both products provide a structured way to establish payment history, but they work differently. Steady Path includes a $1,040 Completion Payment after successful completion, while Steady Build is a lower-cost monthly programme with no cash payout at the end.

Steady is currently available in British Columbia, Alberta and Ontario.

We plan to expand into additional Canadian provinces and territories as we grow.

No.

Steady is not a bank or deposit-taking financial institution.

Steady provides financial wellness and credit-building products. Neither Steady Path nor Steady Build is a bank account, savings account or investment account.

Steady currently offers two products:

Steady Path — a 24-month credit-building programme with bi-weekly payments and a $1,040 Completion Payment after successful completion and satisfaction of the Completion Conditions.

Steady Build — a 24-month credit-building programme costing $14.99 per month, with payment performance reported to Equifax Canada and no cash payout at the end of the programme.

You can only have one Steady product at a time.

No.

Steady does not charge a separate membership or subscription fee.

Steady Path and Steady Build are standalone products with their own pricing, terms and agreements.

Steady operates in accordance with the laws and regulatory requirements applicable to the products and services we provide.

These can include provincial consumer protection and consumer credit requirements, privacy legislation, electronic agreements, payment processing requirements and consumer reporting requirements.

That depends on what you're looking for.

Steady Path may be more suitable if you want a structured 24-month programme that includes a $1,040 Completion Payment after successful completion.

Steady Build offers a lower monthly payment and focuses on establishing payment history without an end-of-term cash payout.

You should review the pricing and agreement for each product before deciding which is appropriate for you.

03 YOUR PATH FORWARD

Steady Path

Steady Path is a structured 24-month credit-building programme.

You make scheduled bi-weekly payments throughout the programme, and your payment history is reported to Equifax Canada.

After successfully completing the programme and satisfying the Completion Conditions in your Steady Path Agreement, Steady makes a $1,040 Completion Payment to you.

Steady Path has a $1,040 Credit Amount and a $240 total Programme Fee.

Your scheduled payments total $1,280 over 24 months.

The payment schedule consists of 52 bi-weekly payments, as set out in your Steady Path Agreement.

Please review your Disclosure Statement before accepting the agreement for the complete cost-of-borrowing information applicable to your account.

No.

There is no conventional cash advance when you open Steady Path.

The $1,040 Completion Payment becomes payable after you successfully complete the programme and satisfy the Completion Conditions set out in your Steady Path Agreement.

No.

Steady Path is not a savings account or savings programme.

Your payments are made under your Steady Path credit agreement. Steady does not hold your payments in a savings account, trust account or investment account for later return.

The $1,040 paid at successful completion is the Completion Payment provided under the terms of your Steady Path Agreement.

The Credit Amount carries 0% contractual interest.

Steady Path does, however, have a $240 Programme Fee, which forms part of the cost of the product.

Your Disclosure Statement sets out the applicable cost-of-borrowing and APR information.

Steady Path payments are made every two weeks over the 24-month programme.

Your exact payment amounts and dates are shown in your Steady Path Agreement and payment schedule.

Steady reports factual information about your Steady Path account and payment performance to Equifax Canada in accordance with your agreement and applicable law.

Making payments as agreed can help you establish a record of payment performance.

However, Steady cannot guarantee that your credit score will increase.

If you've successfully completed the programme and satisfied the Completion Conditions in your agreement, Steady will make your $1,040 Completion Payment to your verified nominated bank account.

Your rights to prepay or close Steady Path early are governed by your Steady Path Agreement and applicable law.

There is no prepayment penalty or prepayment charge.

See the Cancellation & Early Closure section below for more information.

  • - Payment reminders and account notices
  • - Financial education resources and programme content

  • - Payment-performance reporting to Equifax Canada

The Credit Amount is used solely to finance these Programme Services and isn't paid to you in cash.

It isn't advanced to you as cash, isn't withdrawable and cannot be used outside Steady Build.

No.

Steady Build has no Completion Payment, cash payout, refund or return of payments at the end of the 24-month term.

Your payments repay the Credit Amount used to finance your Programme Services.

No.

The Steady Build Agreement currently provides for:

0.00% annual interest

Steady Build is designed to establish a factual record of payment performance.

Steady reports information about your account to Equifax Canada, including payment performance and relevant account status information.

However, credit scores depend on many factors, and Steady does not guarantee that your credit score will increase or that you'll qualify for other credit products.

Once the Credit Amount has been fully repaid, your Steady Build programme ends and the account is reported in accordance with your agreement and applicable law.

There is no cash payment or refund at completion.

05 UNDERSTANDING CREDIT REPORTING

Credit Reporting

Yes.

Payment performance for Steady's credit-building products is reported to Equifax Canada in accordance with your agreement and applicable law.

Credit reporting is based on factual account information.

Depending on your product and agreement, this can include information about:

  • - On-time payments
  • - Missed or late payments
  • - Account balances
  • - Account status
  • - Default
  • - Closure

For Steady Build specifically, the agreement expressly provides for reporting both favourable and unfavourable factual account information.

No.

Steady's products can help you establish payment history, but your credit score is determined by the credit reporting agency using numerous factors.

Steady cannot guarantee a particular credit score, credit decision or financial outcome.

Credit reporting and credit-file updates aren't instantaneous.

The timing of an update can depend on Steady's reporting cycle and the processing carried out by the consumer reporting agency.

We cannot guarantee that a particular payment or account update will appear on your credit file on a specific date.

06 MAKING YOUR PAYMENTS

Payments

Scheduled payments are generally collected from your nominated Canadian bank account using Pre-Authorized Debit (PAD).

Your payment schedule and collection arrangements are provided during your application and in the applicable agreement.

If a PAD is unsuccessful, Steady may attempt to collect it again in accordance with your PAD authorization and applicable law.

You should make sure sufficient funds are available and contact Steady as soon as possible if you're experiencing difficulty making a payment.

For Steady Build, Steady provides notice and an opportunity to cure a missed payment before treating it as an Event of Default, subject to the agreement and applicable law.

Yes.

Because Steady reports factual payment performance, late or missed payments and other account status information may be reported to a consumer reporting agency in accordance with your agreement and applicable law.

07 WHEN PLANS CHANGE

Cancellation & Early Closure

Yes.

Both Steady Path and Steady Build provide mechanisms for ending your agreement before the scheduled completion date.

However, cancelling a credit agreement does not necessarily mean that amounts already owing disappear.

The financial consequences depend on which Steady product you have and the terms of your agreement.

If you request to close Steady Path before completing the programme, Steady will calculate your Early Closure Payment in accordance with your Steady Path Agreement and applicable law.

The Early Closure Payment determines the financial position of your account when it is closed early.

You won't be charged a prepayment penalty or prepayment charge.

Because you haven't successfully completed the full programme, the normal $1,040 Completion Payment does not apply in the same way as it would following successful completion.

Your specific Early Closure Payment will be calculated using the terms of your agreement.

The Early Closure Payment is the amount calculated under your Steady Path Agreement when Steady Path is closed before successful completion.

It is separate from the standard $1,040 Completion Payment available following successful completion of the programme.

When you request early closure, Steady will calculate the applicable amount based on your account and the terms of your agreement.

No cancellation/prepayment penalty or prepayment charge applies.

Other amounts due or the calculation of your Early Closure Payment remain subject to your Steady Path Agreement.

You may request cancellation of Steady Build at any time, and Steady does not charge a cancellation fee.

However, cancelling Steady Build does not cancel or forgive the remaining outstanding Credit Amount.

Payments already made aren't refundable and no cash payout is made when you cancel.

Steady will close the account, provide a final balance statement and report the final account status in accordance with your agreement and applicable law.

Yes.

Cancellation doesn't forgive the remaining outstanding balance.

You remain responsible for amounts owing under your Steady Build Agreement.

Yes.

You can prepay some or all of your outstanding Steady Build balance at any time without a prepayment charge or penalty.

After full prepayment, Steady will close the account and report the resulting account status in accordance with your agreement and applicable law.

Full prepayment doesn't create a cash payout or refund.

Account closure and other relevant factual account information may be reported to Equifax Canada in accordance with your agreement and applicable law.

Closing an account doesn't guarantee any particular effect on your credit score.
